It is important to realize,cemeteries have bylaws which may limit the 
type, the size or shape of monument you may choose for your sight. 
To avoid dissappointment, it is best to begin by contacting the 
governing Town, City or company of your chosen cemetery to find out 
what their restrictions (if any) may be?

Designing Your Monument - Questions to consider:

1. How many people will the monument represent? (An individual, 
a couple or an entire family) 

2. If two people’s names are to be placed on the monument, on which 
side should each name be placed?
 (Left or Right)
 
3. For each person on the monument, the following information:

a) Family Name
b) Given Name(s)
c) Maiden Name
d) Date of Birth
e) Date of Death

4 Would you like the family name to be placed on the back of the 
memorial?

5. If the monument if for a Mother and Father, would you like their 
childrens’ names placed on the monument? 

6. If the monument is for a couple who were married, would you like 
the wedding date on the monument?

7. Would you like a Verse on the Monument (a Verse is generally at 
the top, before the names. For example: "In Loving Memory of")

8. Would you like an Epitaph on the monument? (an Epitaph generally 
follows the names. For example: "Forever In Our Hearts") 

9. Would you like a Color Photo (see example)?

10. Would you like a Vase?


11. If a vase is selected, which side should it be placed on?
(left side or right side of monument)

12. What type of artistry design would you like on the monument? 
(flowers, angels, wheat, work, hobbies, clubs, religious, pets, scenery)

13. If room allows, the Family name can be placed in a panel with 
raised lettering. Is this something that interests you?
